Forest Biosecurity Services

MPI has determined that biosecurity services for forestry remain an essential service which will continue to keep New Zealand free from biosecurity risk.

This includes the biosecurity surveillance functions which MPI delivers nationwide, along with the MPI and FOA cost shared Forest Biosecurity Surveillance (FBS) Programme.  MPI has also confirmed with the FOA that the Non Model Allocation (NMA) component of the forest surveillance programme is also considered an essential biosecurity service which enables this surveillance effort to continue in some areas despite the current lock-down.

SPS Biosecurity and SCION, the providers of the field and diagnostics aspects of the FBS and NMA programmes, have registered with MPI for Safe Practice for essential business and have measures in place to ensure they are operating safely.

Surveys are likely be constrained by access restrictions as a number of sites will be locked down.  Effort will be redirected accordingly.
